The Duke's Seafood Cookery Masterclasses

MASTERCLASSES & ADVANCED CLASSES WILL RESUME SOON!

During our 3 hour classes, you will have the opportunity to learn from both the fishmonger and chef, in a relaxed atmosphere. Have a chat, enhance your knowledge, and learn or perfect skills such as cleaning and filleting fresh fish, flavour pairing, preparation, cooking and even restaurant standard presentation techniques. 

Everything you need during the course is provided for you, and you will be able to enjoy what you make either during the course or take it home with you. We will also send you a pack with the ingredients and recipes that you used during the course. Tea and coffee is complementary during your course, but should you wish, there will also be the opportunity to purchase an alcoholic beverage (or two, why not?!) to enjoy through the evening. 

Each class will consist of a selection of dishes, using a mix of both fish and shellfish. We will try where possible to use at least one locally caught product, caught on our own boat, just off the local coast, meaning the freshness will be second to none!  

Classes will be no more than 5 people, so you will have ample opportunity to talk to both the chef and fishmonger.

Classes are £65 per person (with the exception of the advanced class - £75), and payment will secure your place on the course.

Having moved to Mersea for a short period of time over Christmas period I was looking to really enjoy the seafood. Being a chef for 30yrs I feel as though I know good quality food and here I was not disappointed at all. It started with just the service at the hut. The team were so attentive and more than happy to help. The fish was so fresh and tasty and the menu just sounded perfect even for the quieter periods. All you could hear was people raving about the quality and I can only back that up by agreeing, it was amazing! I saw the sign for the fish course and signed up, the team Steve & Tony were so knowledgeable and engaging and really helped everyone settle in and have an enjoyable time. It doesn’t matter if you are a novice or experienced in seafood, I can guarantee you will learn something and have a great time, please do yourself a favour and sign up. If nothing else certainly give the seafood a try, so much better than the well known alternative. - D Chapman

Love cooking, love shellfish, but have always avoided buying fresh and unprepared as unsure how to prep for cooking! Got a Duke’s Seafood master class gift voucher for Christmas and it was brilliant! Friendly, welcoming and informative I left with the confidence to give it a go at home! The combination of Steve, showing how to prep oysters, crab, prawns and mussels, and Tony, in the kitchen, giving us a wealth of recipe ideas and top cooking tips was just perfect!
